The Lively Chinese series is a set of Chinese textbooks compiled by key teachers from the Lisbon Chinese School in Portugal. Drawing on years of teaching experience and the practical needs of overseas Chinese language education, the series is primarily tailored for K-12 students in overseas Chinese schools. Consisting of a student textbook, Workbook A and Workbook B, the series features a complete curriculum system and comprehensive learning resources.
The Lively Chinese Grade 4, Volume 2 continues the knowledge framework of Grade 4, Volume 1 with a gradual increase in learning difficulty. Focusing on five core competencies, it serves as a high-quality teaching resource for overseas young learners to consolidate their Chinese foundation and inherit traditional Chinese culture.
The textbook boasts a scientific and complete curriculum system, centered on six core texts and two Chinese Learning Gardens. Its diverse text selections integrate modern daily life and traditional culture, closely connecting with students’ real-life experiences. Equipped with extended reading passages and classic ancient poems, it builds a three-dimensional learning model of intensive reading, extensive reading and knowledge accumulation, helping students enrich their vocabulary, cultivate language sense, and improve their literary attainment and reading comprehension.
With clear learning objectives and solid training designs for foundational abilities, this volume covers nearly 200 new Chinese characters. It provides targeted training on character recognition, differentiation and handwriting. Combined with differentiated exercises in the two workbooks, it effectively strengthens students’ core abilities in character recognition and writing. The progressive sentence training focuses on basic sentence transformation, quantifier application and other key grammar points, helping students standardize their language expression and build a solid foundation in Chinese grammar.
Rooted in profound traditional Chinese culture, the textbook features a dedicated “China Expert” section. It systematically introduces the origins and customs of six major traditional Chinese festivals, including the Spring Festival, Qingming Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. Supporting exercises enable students to explore traditional Chinese culture during language learning and enhance their cultural identity. The practical writing training focuses on diaries, message notes, letters and other practical genres, improving students’ written expression skills in a step-by-step manner.
Supported by Workbook A and Workbook B, this volume realizes integrated in-class learning and after-school consolidation. With balanced difficulty levels, it adapts to students with different learning abilities. Integrating language proficiency improvement, thinking cultivation and cultural inheritance, the whole set of textbooks fully assists overseas students in improving their Chinese skills, embracing traditional Chinese culture, and steadily enhancing their comprehensive Chinese literacy.
