Description
The IGCSE Chinese course includes three levels: First Language (0509), Second Language (0523), and Foreign Language (0547), among which the first is the most advanced. First Language (0509) is designed for students who are proficient in Chinese and those whose Chinese level is on a par with native speakers.
According to the new IGCSE syllabus issued in 2020, the section of modern text reading comprehension in IGCSE 0509 Test Paper 1 takes up 23 points, which is a key part students should pay attention to when preparing for the examination. In line with the teaching objectives and study requirements of the new IGCSE syllabus, IGCSE Chinese as a First Language: Modern Chinese features more than 20 selections from distinguished Chinese literacy works since the 20th century, designed to appeal to young readers and help them connect with the material. Based upon the requirements of the course syllabus and the sample test paper of the official exam, reading comprehension exercises are provided in the book along with the keys in the end. By completing these exercises, students can enhance their competence in analyzing the content and views stated in the works, which will also help them pick useful information according to specific aims thus achieve high scores in the section of modern text reading comprehension.
Classical Chinese——IGCSE Chinese As A First Language is compiled based on the requirements and example questions of the newly added "Classical Chinese Writings Reading Section" in the IGCSE (0509）Syllabus (2020 Version) to help students improve their skills in reading classical Chinese writings. Twenty classical Chinese short passages written during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) were selected for this book, and the Mock Test, Explanation and Exercises are provided to help students master their problem-solving skills and enhance their reading abilities. Moreover, special emphasis is placed on the explanation and exercises of key notional words and functional words.
Writing——IGCSE Chinese As a First Language （2020-2022 Syllabus） aims to ensure that Chinese passages written by these learners are up to course requirements while in a non-native language environment. This book provides detailed analysis of Chinese passages written based on the course requirements as well as their corresponding mind maps.
